“Somewhere in Time”
2010 Fund Raising Event
For the benefit of
Smith County Historical Society

When:  Thursday, September 30, 2010, 6pm

Where:  Hollytree Country Club Clubhouse, 6700 Hollytree Drive, Tyler, Texas

Who:  Open to the Public

What:  Step back “Somewhere in Time” to celebrate the history of the 1909 Smith County Courthouse and the continuing service to the community by the Smith County Historical Society an organization with over 50 years of preservation efforts underway.  Guests will enjoy presidential hors d’oeuvres and beverages while listening to vintage tunes from the early part of the 20th century and viewing rare museum artifacts from the 1909 courthouse on special display for the evening.  Silent auction items from local businesses will be available and also a live auction featuring the artwork of local artist Jack Mason.

Why:  The Society is responsible for the preservation and daily maintenance of the 1904 Carnegie Library Building and the Camp Ford Historic Site.  In order to continue to do the most appropriate conservation efforts they are asking the public to help with their monetary needs.  In addition to these ongoing responsibilities the Society would like to be able to make the archives they maintain for use by the public more accessible to those individuals with disabilities by moving items down to one level for the ease of their research.

Tickets:  $35 per person

Artwork:  Jack Mason a local artist and member of the Society has produced a breathtaking portrait of our 1909 Smith County Courthouse that was taken down in 1955.  This work is etch/art which is cut and scraped into a clay coated board with overlays and undercuts of oil pencil color and texture.  To him the rock, brick, marble, and concrete textures of Texas Courthouses can best be mirrored by reproducing the same textures on a board.  Smith County’s 1909 Courthouse took him nearly 700 hours from start to finish and he hopes the public will share his passion for this piece of Texas historical art and share in its celebration as well as in the history of other buildings and places in Smith County that the Society works so hard every day to preserve.  We are pleased to announce that Gold Leaf Gallery is sponsoring the framing of this piece so that it can be instantly enjoyed in the home or office of the winning bidder.

Prints for sale:  Because all who attend the event deserve to bring home a reminder of what we might not have in the future if we are not diligent in our preservation efforts, quality reproduction limited edition prints of the 1909 Smith County Courthouse will be available for purchase the evening of the “Somewhere in Time” event and the artist Jack Mason will be there for personalization and signing.

Print price:  $75 each
