What an honor it is to serve as President of the Junior League of Tyler (JLT) this year! We would not be successful without the hard work and dedication of our incredible members and the faithful support from the community. We are thankful to be able to accomplish our mission of promoting voluntarism by volunteering countless hours in the community, developing the potential of women and children through the community agencies we support and with our own League-initiated projects like Summer Reading Camp, Girl Power Summit and the Girl Power Mentoring Program and improving our community to make it a better place for women, children and families.
The theme I selected for the 2010-2011 year relates to something that is near and dear to my heart…….our JLT members. We have a group of 775 amazing women- Provisionals, Actives and Sustainers--- who have a passion for giving their time and talents to the community. As we have for 60 years, the Junior League will continue to value, encourage and train its members. In the Junior League of
“Every Member Matters!”
The Junior League has big plans for the 2010-2011 year as we continue to move our mission forward. Our Girl Power Summit (GPS) is in its 3rd year with such a positive response it will be held on the UT Tyler campus in October and expanded to host 400 6th grade girls. Following the event, for the first year, the Girl Power Mentoring Program will engage smaller groups of the girls to further promote the GPS principles with Junior League Active and Provisional members.
Our Summer Reading Camp will celebrate its 16th year this summer. Third grade students from all over
The Junior League has such an exciting year ahead of us and a very special one for my family and me. My mother,
